The Latest Trends in Hearing Aid Technology

Wide Open Spaces

We equate the notion of wide open areas with freedom. The latest class of hearing instruments, a family of petite top-of-the-ear devices, using a micro-speaker placed in the ear canal can provide that same sense of freedom. The ear canal is left virtually open to maintain natural resonances. These models are nearly invisible when worn, but the results speak volumes. Miniaturization of computer technology allows these devices to be fully featured, offering completely automatic functioning and control of noise reduction features: directionality, filtering of impact sounds such as silverware, reduction of traffic and fan noise, detection and enhancement of speech, reduction of wind noise, feedback cancellation, and automatic environmental classification with selection of proper hearing aid settings. Some models can be paired with Bluetooth devices to allow audio streaming from a phone, stereo, TV, or computer directly into the hearing devices.

Hearing technology today offers a NATURAL feel and quality of sound like no other that we have seen in the past!  The technology uses a micro-speaker placed inside the ear canal, which maintains all of your natural hearing.  These models are nearly invisible to the eye, but the results speak volumes!  Computer chips allow the devices to be fully directional, automatic functional, and control outside noises.  One feature known as “signal-to-noise” ratio allow for quieter background noise, but amplified speech.  Directionality, reduction of wind noise, and feedback cancellation are also major features in the technology.  All of our hearing instruments can be paired with Bluetooth devices to allow audio streaming from a cell phone, landline phone, stereo, or TV. The audio streams directly into your hearing devices.

Sounds Complicated….Au Contraire!

The fact that we can now automate so much of the dynamic features of amplification technology makes these instruments extremely easy to wear. Put them on in the morning and forget about them until you take them off at night. For those who want to take a more active role, remote controls can be provided so that minor adjustments to comfort and clarity can be automatically logged and the instruments configured to gradually learn your preferences.

Oticon Hearing Aids

We hear with our Brain, not with our ears. Hearing is a cognitive process - it happens in the brain. The fewer details of sound the brain receives, the harder it has to work to decode it. Oticon delivers better hearing with less effort by supporting how the brain makes sense of sound. We call this approach BrainHearing.™

From detecting the simplest sounds to performing the most complex listening activities, you brain is responsible making sense of everything you hear. Experience better hearing with less effort, by choosing a hearing solution that supports the whole system-your two ears, and your brain!
Technology that works smarter:

  • Preserves the important details in speech
  • Works as a system to help you locate sound
  • Reduces the effort involved in listening
  • Takes your personal listening preferences into account

Unitron Hearing Aids

We innovate to make life better

We never lose sight of the human side of our business. When we set out to design and develop our products, we’re guided by one fundamental purpose: to make life better for people with hearing loss.

With the force of many scientists behind our product development, our most important validation doesn’t take place in a lab. Our audiologists and product experts spend months ensuring our technologies work in the real world for real people. We also gather in-depth feedback from hearing healthcare professionals and conduct extensive field trials and in-clinic validations before taking a new product to market.

Which style of Hearing Aid is right for you?

There are two main styles of hearing aids: those that fit behind the ear and those that fit right in the ear canal. What’s best for you is dictated by your hearing loss, lifestyle and preferences.

Behind the ear

  • A bit larger than in-the-ear styles but some are extremely small and the thin tube is almost invisible.
  • Can fit a larger battery for longer life, and larger amplifiers for more severe hearing losses.
  • Can often be fitted the same day as your hearing assessment.
  • Some do not occlude (or fill up) the ear canal so sounds are more natural, particularly your own voice.
  • Can be a good choice if you have dexterity concerns.

Inside the ear

  • Visible in the ear.
  • Small sizes can make these a fairly discreet choice.
  • Customized to fit inside your ear canal requires a return visit.
  • Small size could be an issue if you have dexterity challenges.
  • The further into the canal these are fitted the more occlusion (blocked ear feeling) you may experience.
  • Need to be cleaned of wax regularly.
